NAMI Davidson Free Support Groups – A Safe Place for Emotional Conversations
We Talk About It! Come to a Safe Place Where You Can, Too! NAMI Davidson offers four support groups monthly. Groups are open to people living with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, dissociative identity disorder, ADHD, and other brain or trauma-based disorders. A diagnosis is not necessary. What is important to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), is the impact it is having on your life as someone directly experiencing a disorder, or as a family member or close friend. NAMI Davidson support groups are led by people who have lived their own mental health journeys directly or as family members. They have 50 hours of training and a mentorship before they are allowed to lead a group. Group leaders also have self-awareness , practice the art of self-care, and healthy boundary setting. Group leaders are present as guides shining a light down a dark path of recovery and sharing the knowledge gained from their experience that may useful to someone else. Current groups are in virtual format on Zoom, or by phone. Groups are not 12-step programs, but do follow a guided process. There is no cost, but registration is required. You must be 18 years or older to participate.
